Setbacks

In an ideal world, we would be able to cook whatever we would like, we would have access to any ingredient we need, and every kitchen appliance would be available to use. As this is not the case, it may be difficult to find ingredients for different recipes, especially if the area you live in is not very diverse. However, in the nature of these recipes, adaptation is encouraged. Like the Chinese immigrants in Mexico who substituted jicama in for water chestnuts, anyone can make a dish without access to all of the ingredients if they have access to ingredients with similar textures/flavors. This experimentation may not yield the exact same result, but it is how these cultural-fusion cuisines begin.
